July 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

You are cordially invited to attend a public meeting where we will provide additional information,
identify alternatives under consideration, and discuss the preliminary findings of the Plan-EA. The
meeting will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the:
Mount Joy Township Building
8853 Elizabethtown Road
Elizabethtown, PA 17022

The United States Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and its
partners, Lancaster County Commissioners and Lancaster County Conservation District, are developing a
Chiques Creek Watershed Project Plan.
The purpose of the project is to reduce nutrient-laden sediment loads from the Chiques Creek
watershed entering the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. As presented in the Chiques Creek
Watershed Alternative Restoration Plan (Susquehanna River Basin Commission, 2019), the primary
source of sediment in Chiques Creek is streambank erosion of legacy sediment. The focus of the project
will be to stabilize or remove legacy sediment. More information can be found on the project website at
https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/conservation-basics/conservation-by-state/pennsylvania/chiques-creekwatershed-legacy-sediment.
On July 27, 2022, the USDA-NRCS hosted a public scoping meeting to provide information and obtain
public input regarding program objectives, the planning process, and the roles and responsibilities of
program participants. Using input received during that meeting, the program participants have
identified and evaluated alternatives to implement the program within the Chiques Creek watershed of
Lancaster County.
