SUMMARY:Chiques Creek Restoration Plan - Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to attend a public meeting where we will provide additional information\,\nidentify alternatives under consideration\, and discuss the preliminary findings of the Plan-EA. The\nmeeting will be held on Thursday\, July 18\, 2024\, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm\, at the:\nMount Joy Township Building \n8853 Elizabethtown Road \nElizabethtown\, PA 17022 \nThe United States Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and its\npartners\, Lancaster County Commissioners and Lancaster County Conservation District\, are developing a\nChiques Creek Watershed Project Plan.\nThe purpose of the project is to reduce nutrient-laden sediment loads from the Chiques Creek\nwatershed entering the Susquehanna River and Chesapeake Bay. As presented in the Chiques Creek\nWatershed Alternative Restoration Plan (Susquehanna River Basin Commission\, 2019)\, the primary\nsource of sediment in Chiques Creek is streambank erosion of legacy sediment. The focus of the project\nwill be to stabilize or remove legacy sediment. More information can be found on the project website at\nhttps://www.nrcs.usda.gov/conservation-basics/conservation-by-state/pennsylvania/chiques-creekwatershed-legacy-sediment.\nOn July 27\, 2022\, the USDA-NRCS hosted a public scoping meeting to provide information and obtain\npublic input regarding program objectives\, the planning process\, and the roles and responsibilities of\nprogram participants. Using input received during that meeting\, the program participants have\nidentified and evaluated alternatives to implement the program within the Chiques Creek watershed of\nLancaster County. \nPlease contact Heather\nSmeltz\, PE\, at heather.smeltz@usda.gov or {717) 237-2214\, prior to July 12th for details.

DESCRIPTION:The Chiques Creek Watershed Alliance is proud to host the annual CCWA Expo! Join us at the Manheim Farm Show during Water Week to learn about the critters and insects that help our streams stay healthy or let your creativity show by helping decorate the rain barrel\, plus much\, much more!\nThe CCWA partners with Lancaster Conservancy as part of Water Week! Join us in rewilding for clean water\, did you know that native trees play an important role in keeping our waterways healthy?  They capture pollutants\, like Lancaster County’s fertile farm soils\, that are carried away in runoff and could impair our streams and rivers. Native trees are critical to our health\, our economy\, and our environment! That’s why we’re giving them away throughout Lancaster Water Week. Watch for native trees during Water Week events around the county from June 7-15!\nFor more information on additional events please see the link here: lancasterwaterweek.org/events
