West Branch Little Conestoga Creek

The Little Conestoga Watershed is located in the Central portion of the county.  This 66 square mile watershed is the “little brother” to the Conestoga River.  Today there are about 79 miles of streams within the Little Conestoga Creek Watershed.  The mainstem of the Little Conestoga Creek and its tributaries flow mostly south to the stream’s confluence with the Conestoga River around River Road.  According to the USGS Stream Stats website only about 7% of the watershed is forested and nearly 25% of the watershed has urban development on it.  The watershed starts south of Manheim and encompasses the town of East Petersburg.  There is an active watershed association doing work within the watershed, the Little Conestoga Watershed Alliance.  The Alliance does mostly outreach and educational work along with stream and conservation work throughout the watershed.  There have been numerous studies completed by various groups within the watershed and outside the watershed as well.  From watershed wide assessments to specific watershed reaches.
